KARACHI, the country’s financial center, continues to be crippled by frequent strikes, incidents of terrorism and deteriorating security situation. This has ended in business loss in the billions and challenges for Forex traders, entrepreneurs and their employees.
The biggest city of the state and economic center of Sindh, outstretched across 3,530 sq kilometers, and have the highest rate of literacy— over 90% in the main region — implements the chief population in the generating, market, and service niches. Any disturbance in Karachi straightly influences our national economy. Only one day’s shutter-down strike in the metropolis is estimated to cost a colossal loss of estimated Rs. 7 billion.
The most affected are the regular wage earners, either they can be masons, carpenter, sanity fitters and laborers who are searching for work on a daily basis. Fruits and vegetable suppliers, porters in Jodia bazaar, rickshaw drivers. Because of these strikes , non availability of transport and violence many laborers and daily wagers are unable to go their factories and construction sites.
According to a safe estimate, nearly 80% of industries and workplaces remain closed during enforcement of these strikes. These strikes also shut down the CNG stations and petrol pumps and paralyzed the transport system. However a few industries succeed in functioning in the case if their workers reach in time.
A 40 year old man said about this situation that he worked in a factory on daily wages of RS.600/day. He has 5 children and old parents to feed. He can’t receive any money because of unavailability of transport during strikes. Everyone can imagine the severity of the situation which he faces during such circumstances.
People burn tires on the roads, put the cars on fire, and place the hurdles in the way of traffic, which resulted in the worst traffic jam. Office workers and students of school and colleges also face difficult to reach at their places. This situation creates a great chaose.
About 18 million people live in Karachi,. These people are disturbed due to kidnapping for ransom and target killing, the drug mafias, land grabbers, Bhatta Khor and war between all of them have severely effect lives of businessmen and citizens. They seemed to be miserable. And above of all this they are always frightened by suicide blasts and sectarian killing.
Karachi hosts conglomeration of different people from all provinces of Pakistan. That’s why it is called a mini-Pakistan. Many people from Azad Kashmir, Afghanistan and Federally administrated Areas come here to seek employment and to do business. Maintaining law and order situation in Pakistan was the primary duty of our Government. But sadly our government is non-serious or completely helpless in resolving current issues in Karachi. If this situation persists then economy of Pakistan, which is already in very bad condition, will bear the countless loss.
