Free And Fair Election

Safely, 60% or even more human population in Pakistan lives in rural areas, which depend on Agriculture and so does the Pakistani overall economy. But in 65 years of state process we have seen thirty year of democracy and rest has moved to dictatorships. But the thirty annul of democracy in which more than 60% chosen members originate from rural regions have failed to develop those places. The majority of the villages in Pakistan is still inadequate with fresh water, education system and health system for the general public.

Unfortunately, we continue to experience the instances of a parallel judicial process similar to Panchayat, bonded labor and integrity killings. The democracies contain mainly oligarchies have supplied absolutely nothing to the people of Pakistan. And the shattered cotton sector, shortage of wheat and increasing terrorism are the proof of their unsuccessful behavior regarding their people. The legislators don’t come with any specific agenda for people. And lack of education and mental slaveries haven’t permit villagers discovered the power of their votes.

The continuing voter verification process in Karachi was supposed to terminate by Feb.11th 2013, but by the provided time frame 0.7 million voters in all the districts have not recently been confirmed yet. The process started on Supreme Court’s notification which appeared as a consequence of the petition submitted by some parties against Karachi’s election results. The parties requested for the delimitation in Karachi, that was last done in 2002 on the census report of 1998 in virtually all over Pakistan. Since then the census process has not been done in Pakistan.

Election Commission laws and regulations (Act 34 of 1974) are clear about the technique of delimitation. The law code says “the constituencies for elections to the Federal and Provincial Assemblies have to be delimited after every single census. ” Now the Article 10 (11) of above ECP law says under the label of “Bar of Jurisdiction” that “the validity of the delimitation of any constituency, or of any procedures taken out or anything made by or under the prestige of the Commission. This Act will definitely not be called in question at any courtroom.

”Currently, the political parties that are resting outside National assembly has emphasized Karachi for the delimitation and voter confirmation and the largest opposition party PML (N) has joined these people in this campaign. The queries arise are, why didn’t PML (N) demand the census right through the country and then delimitation under ECP rules in last five-years? Why did these parties elevating this matter while the Election is just about the corner?

If our Supreme court and ECP are of the view that a fair election in Karachi can change the situation of whole Pakistan then I am not agree with this thinking . The real areas which  need fair and free election are rural areas of Pakistan.  Where the poor people are forced to elect their masters or even sell their votes only for Rs.500 or sometimes simply by one time meal.

FAFEN ( free and fair election network) should focus more on villages. The army should be pointed on every polling station in our villages. Then media have to ply its role by more coverage of such areas. What living standards  these villagers have after electing their masters.
